Truth about Truth

They [the deceived] perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved…and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.” (2 Thessalonians 2:10, 12)

When Jesus walked the earth, John tells us he was full of “grace and truth” (John 1:14). We’ve been discussing grace and truth as a “both/and” proposition, not “either/or.” But over the years, it’s easy to see one idea often promoted over the other. Today it seems truth is under fire.

In our world, up is down, left is right, and day is night. Things that were “a given” last week are now up in the air. We live in Crazy Town!

But it’s not a new struggle. When Jesus appeared before Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor, Pilate unwittingly became the spokesperson of every generation preceding and following him (theologians, philosophers, and children alike) when he asked the question all humans want the answer to, “What is truth?”(John 18:38)

I won’t try to answer this huge question in a short blog, but I’ll say that God’s creation of the world and his interaction with us through Jesus is the heart of truth (John 14:6). All other truth stems from this.

As believers, truth is everything. We’re called to believe the truth, love the truth, walk in the truth, and to resist the lies of the enemy.

And, we’re called to share the truth, like Jesus did, with grace! Let’s talk about it this week. I’ll see you Sunday!
