Operation Christmas Child
Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of God's love. This program of Samaritan's Purse provides an opportunity for people of all ages to be involved in a simple, hands—on missions project while focusing on the true meaning of Christmas—Jesus Christ. This last Christmas, New Life Church assembled over 200 boxes.
Our Daily Bread
Our Daily Bread provides a free, daily, nutritious meal to the homeless or needy individual in Denton. It is manned each day by a professional chef and volunteers from the community. Volunteers from 25 Denton area churches work together each noon preparing and serving meals, washing dishes, and cleaning up after the kitchen closes. These volunteers come from all walks of life: retirees, students, unemployed, parents with children, and people just caring for other people. Our Daily Bread has grown to serve as many as 33,800 lunches to the homeless and hungry each year. Besides providing meals, they also raise money each Christmas season to provide gloves, blankets, sweat pants, and shirts to help area homeless people stay warm during the winter months.
HelpNet of the Greater Denton Area (940) 382-1913, a social service coordinating agency, also has a staff person on duty each day at Our Daily Bread to help those who need other assistance from local agencies. The aim, with much resulting success, is to steer people towards gainful employment and help them become self sufficient.
Volunteers from New Life Church supply kitchen support for Our Daily Bread each Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. The experience of volunteering at Our Daily Bread is greatly rewarding and time very well spent. The kitchen islocated at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 300 West Oak Street in Denton, Texas, and serves a meal from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
